Zobrist calls for electronic strike zone in MLB |
Chicago Cubs outfielder Ben Zobrist was rung up for the final out in Chicago's 6-2 loss to the Diamondbacks on Saturday night.
The final pitch that was a slider was a clear ball out of the strike zone, but the umpire made the game-ending call to the shocked faces of the Cubs players especially Zobrist. Zobrist had the following to say to reporters about the horrendous call after the game. "If we want to change something like that, we're going to have an electronic strike zone because human beings are going to make mistakes," Zobrist said via ESPN's Jesse Rogers. "Tough situation for that to happen, but he's probably going to look at it and not be too happy with himself. Zobrist thinks that it's time for major league baseball to use better technology for the strike zone. "That's something the league is going to have to look at when you start ending games and games turn on one pitch like that. It's an unfortunate situation, and now that we have the technology, we should probably get it right." After a controversial strike 3 call ended the Cubs game, Ben Zobrist reiterated the need for an electronic strike zone. pic.twitter.com/E0fZUi7FZ2
It's difficult when a bad call ends a game prematurely so it's understandable that Zobrist would hope that changes be made to the system. The loss put the Cubs tied with their rival St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central race. WTF pic.twitter.com/bpewna0V5h
