Cubs recall reliever Daniel Palencia, option righty |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Daniel Palencia from Triple-A Iowa and optioned right-handed pitcher Trey Wingenter to Iowa.
Palencia, 24, is 0-1 with a 7.11 ERA (10 ER/12.2 IP) in nine appearances with the Cubs this season. He earned his first career save on April 7 against the Dodgers in a 3.0-innings outing in which he allowed one run on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts. In 32 games (one start) with Triple-A Iowa, he is 2-1 with three saves, a 4.97 ERA (21 ER/38.0 IP) and 66 strikeouts. He has made four-straight scoreless appearances (4.1 IP) with the I-Cubs since Sept. The San Carlos, Venezuela, native made his major league debut on July 4, 2023 against the Brewers (2.0 IP, 1 H) and picked up his first career win. He was acquired from the Oakland Athletics with infielder Greg Deichmann for left-handed pitchers Andrew Chafin on July 26, 2021. Wingenter, 30, appeared in three games in relief for Chicago following his Sept. 4 call-up, posting a 4.50 ERA (2 ER/4.0 IP). The Cubs play the Oakland Athletics today at 6:40 p.m. CT at Wrigley Field, in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 670 The Score and 1200 WRTO.
