Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Cubs reliever Carl Edwards Jr. has reportedly agreed to a one-year guaranteed deal worth $1.50 million with the Cubs. He will be under team control until after the 2022 season.

Edwards made $594,000 last season.

The move was made to avoid arbitration for both sides and today at 12 p.m. CT was the deadline for new salaries for arbitration-eligible players including Cubs players Javier Baez, Kris Bryant, Mike Montgomery, Kyle Hendricks, Kyle Schwarber, and Addison Russell.

Edwards had a 2.60 ERA with 67 strikeouts and 1.31 WHIP last season.

For his young career, he has 3.06 ERA with two saves, 217 strikeouts, and a low 1.07 WHIP.

Cubs teammates Kyle Hendricks, Kyle Schwarber, and Mike Montgomery have signed deals with the team earlier in the day.
