Cubs make several roster moves

by - Senior Editor -

According to the Chicago Cubs transaction page on Monday night, the team has activated shortstop Dansby Swanson from the 10-day injured list from his right knee sprain that has sidelined him since May 10.

“We're hoping Tuesday that both [Swanson and Hoerner] are in the lineup,” Cubs manager Craig Counsell said recently. “I don't think it means guarantees of scoring runs. We're probably going to face Max Fried on Tuesday or Chris Sale on Tuesday. That's a tough task.”

Swanson is hitting .209 with four homers and 12 RBIs this season.

They have also optioned top outfield prospect Pete Crow-Armstrong and infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to Triple-A Iowa.

PCA was hitting .236 with a homer and 9 RBIs with the Cubs this season. He showed his elite speed with five stolen bases in limited action. However, he did have 13 strikeouts in only 55 at-bats with the big league ball club.

Mastrobuoni was only hitting .125 with two RBIs (5 for 40 in 19 games) in the majors this season but flashed some leather filling in for Swanson and Nico Hoerner.

According to reports, the Cubs will also promote 24-year-old infielder Luis Vazquez to the majors on Tuesday.

He hit .262 with three homers and 11 RBIs in 39 games for Triple-A Iowa this season.

The 13th-ranked Cubs prospect was a 14th-round pick of the Cubs in the 2017 MLB Draft.

The Cubs will start a three-game series against the Braves on Tuesday.
