Cubs News: Report: Heavy interest for Trevor Cahill |
The Chicago Cubs had a plethora of versatile players in 2016 including reliever Trevor Cahill. In 2016, he had 2.74 ERA with 66 strikeouts and 1.28 WHIP in 65.2 innings pitched. He was used as a reliever during the season but could have been used as a starter (1 start in 2016) with his previous major league experience with 174 career starts.
However, ESPN analyst Jerry Crasnick reports that several teams are interested in the 28-year old to start games in 2017. "Free agent Trevor Cahill has attracted interest from 6 clubs," Crasnick tweeted. "Three view him as a starter and the other three in more of a relief role." For his career, he has 4.04 ERA with a save, 820 strikeouts, and 1.36 WHIP. He was drafted by the Oakland A's in the second round (66th overall) in the 2006 MLB draft.
