Cubs News: Willson Contreras leaves game due to injury |
CINCINNATI — Making matters worse for the Chicago Cubs while losing 7-2 to the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on Friday, catcher Willson Contreras left the game due to injury in the top of the fifth. Contreras hit a single to center field and exited the contest after reaching first base and appearing to favor his right leg.
Contreras jogged to first after making contact, so it is not clear whether or not he was injured on his swing or while running. The backstop immediately motioned for the trainers to come onto the field after the play ended, and he was subsequently removed from the game and replaced with catcher Tony Wolters. It looked like Contreras was pointing to the back of the leg (hamstring) on the way back to the dugout. https://t.co/h9oeUptRfQ UPDATE: The Cubs later announced that Contreras departed Friday's game upon experiencing tightness in his right thigh. Willson Contreras left tonight's game with right thigh tightness, per Cubs.
