Cubs reliever Yency Almonte undergoes successful surgery |
Chicago Cubs reliever Yency Almonte underwent successful labral repair surgery according to Cubs officials on Friday.
He is out for the rest of the season. “I got the news that I didn't want to get,” said Almonte recently about his injury. “It's upsetting. I came here with a positive mindset from the trade, ready to go dominate. And I feel like I started off pretty well and just was in a good place mentally.” Almonte registered a 3.45 ERA over 17 appearances with the Cubs this season. In other Cubs injury news, relievers Julian Merryweather and Caleb Kilian are both scheduled to make rehab outings with Triple-A Iowa tonight. Both are close to rejoining the ballclub. Merryweather has a 1.93 ERA with six strikeouts and two walks in four appearances this season. Kilian registered an 8-3 record with a 4.56 ERA in 120 1/3 innings with Triple-A Iowa in 2024.
