Cubs reportedly release veteran reliever

The difficult decisions continue to happen around major league baseball as teams ready for their first game of the regular season.

Veteran reliever Junichi Tazawa was released by the Cubs on Saturday according to multiple reports. Today was the deadline before the team had to pay a $100K retention bonus if he was not released.

The 32-year old pitched admirably in the spring giving up only two hits, no walks, and zero runs including nine strikeouts in 5.2 innings.

For his MLB career, he has a 4.12 ERA with four saves, 374 strikeouts, and a 1.32 WHIP.

This might be great news for the Cubs because this probably means that they feel fairly confident about the health of Pedro Strop and Brandon Morrow if they are willing to part with Tazawa.
