WATCH: Jason Heyward crushes go-ahead three-run bomb off Josh Hader in ninth inning |
MILWAUKEE — After failing to score a run for 17 straight innings against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Chicago Cubs produced a ninth-inning rally out of nowhere against the unlikeliest of pitchers on Saturday. Brewers reliever Josh Hader has dominated the Cubs throughout his career, but he imploded with the Brewers leading 2-0 in the top of the ninth.
With one out and runners on the corners, Jason Heyward slugged a three-run blast out to right-center at Miller Park. The 416-footer plated Javier Baez, who singled, and Billy Hamilton, who pinch ran for Anthony Rizzo after Rizzo singled. Heyward now has six dingers and 20 RBIs on the season. He was down to his final strike when he went yard, marking his first long ball of the year against a left-hander. Hader pitched the entire inning and blew a save opportunity. He also gave up a solo dinger to Ildemaro Vargas in the at-bat that followed Heyward's three-run shot, putting the Cubs up 4-2.
