WATCH: Kyle Schwarber crushes two home runs in first two innings |
WASHINGTON — The Washington Nationals defeated the San Francisco Giants 5-0 at Nationals Park on Sunday, and four of the five runs were driven across by left fielder Kyle Schwarber, who homered in the first and second innings. Marking just the seventh time in franchise history that a player has gone yard in the first two innings of a game, Schwarber's heroics increased his 2021 home run and RBI totals to 12 and 31, respectively.
Schwarber batted in the leadoff spot and took Giants starter Johnny Cueto deep with a towering 407-foot dinger to right-center in the Nats' first plate appearance of the day, a feat Schwarber also achieved out of the leadoff spot on Saturday. In the following inning, Schwarber homered off Cueto once again, swinging at a high pitch out of the zone and smacking a 426-foot rainmaker out to right. Cueto had given up just four homers on the season coming into Sunday's contest.
