WATCH: Seiya Suzuki smacks two-run double against Dodgers |
A great start for the Northsiders.
Chicago Cubs right fielder Seiya Suzuki gave fans a taste of what he is capable of, with a thunderous two-run double against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The hit came in the bottom of the first inning, and it was an absolute rocket off the bat. The ball left Suzuki's bat at a blazing 107.3 mph, leaving Dodgers outfielders with little chance to make a play. Suzuki's hit drove in two runs, giving the Cubs an early 2-0 lead over the National League rivals. The at-bat was a solid one for Suzuki, who battled Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias in an eight-pitch at-bat. In total, Urias threw 31 pitches in the first inning as the Cubs batters worked the count over and over again. Dodgers fans may have been left scratching their heads after the at-bat, as earlier in the plate appearance, Suzuki had watched strike three go by. The pitch was clearly a strike, but the home plate umpire called it a ball, giving Suzuki new life in the at-bat. A few pitches later, he made the Dodgers pay for their mistake, smashing the ball off the wall for the two-run double.
