Longtime Wrigley Field organist Gary Pressy is a cherished member of the Chicago Cubs family, as he in the midst of his 33rd season of cranking out tunes at the Friendly Confines. Helping keep the nostalgic tradition of organ-playing at big-league venues alive, Pressy has been steadfast in carrying out his musical duties, and, on Saturday, he made history for doing so.
While all-time Baltimore Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr. is renowned for playing in a record 2,632 consecutive games during his Hall of Fame career, Pressy surpassed that streak to become the "Iron Man" of a different kind of playing when he serenaded the Bleacher Bums with his organ melodies for the 2,633rd straight Cubs home game on Saturday. Having lived in Chicago for his entire life, Pressy has also lived out his dream of combining his passions of playing the organ and watching Cubs baseball since 1987, and, hopefully, his legendary streak will continue to build for years to come.
