WATCH: Eric Hosmer smacks his first homer with the Cubs |
Good sight to see for Cubs fans.
Chicago Cubs first baseman Eric Hosmer finally showed off some his power with a solo blast to put the Cubs up 8-2 in the eighth inning of Wednesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The homer traveled 398 feet with an exit velocity of 104.6 MPH with a launch angle of 25 degrees. It was also his first homer as a member of the Cubs and would have left the ballpark out of 18 out of 30 MLB stadiums including Wrigley Field. The opposite-field home run not only helped the Cubs extend their lead but also gave Hosmer a much-needed confidence boost. Before the homer, Hosmer had almost a 70 percent ground ball rate which is not ideal. After a slow start to the season, he has been working hard to make adjustments at the plate and find his groove, and the home run was a testament to his hard work paying off. For Cubs fans, seeing Hosmer hit his first home run in a Cubs uniform was a memorable moment. It was a sign that the team's offseason acquisitions could pay off, and that Hosmer could be a valuable addition to the lineup. And if he can continue to hit as he did on Wednesday, he could help lead the Cubs to success in the months ahead.
