Cubs makes several roster moves including Chatwood to IL

by -

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed right-handed pitcher Tyler Chatwood on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to August 13) with mid-back strain and selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Jason Adam from the club’s South Bend Alternate Site. To make room for Adam on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Jharel Cotton was designated for assignment.

Adam, who will wear uniform number 60, will be available for the Cubs this afternoon when they conclude their four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field.

Adam, 29, signed a minor league contract with the Cubs last offseason after going 3-0 with four holds and a 2.91 ERA (7 ER/21.2 IP) in 23 relief appearances for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2019. He limited opponents to a .200 batting average, turned in a 1.15 WHIP and allowed only one home run in 21.2 innings pitched, all of which contributed to a .601 opponents OPS. Overall, Adam is 3-3 with a 4.83 ERA (29 ER/54.0 IP) in 54 career relief appearances covering two seasons with the Kansas City Royals (2018) and Blue Jays (2019).

The 6-foot-3 Adam was originally selected by the Kansas City Royals in the fifth round of the 2010 Draft out of Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kansas.

Chatwood, 30, is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA (9 ER/15.0 IP) in three starts with the Cubs this season.

Chicago’s 60-man Player Pool roster stands at 58 players, with 28 active players (plus four 10-day injured list players) in Chicago and 26 players in South Bend.
