Cubs place Clint Frazier on IL, recall infielder Alfonso Rivas |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed outfielder Clint Frazier on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to April 20) with appendicitis and recalled infielder Alfonso Rivas from Triple-A Iowa.
Rivas, 25, begins his second stint with Chicago as he broke camp with the team, making his first Opening Day roster. He went 2-for-4 with a run and one RBI in two games before he was optioned to Iowa April 16. In three contests with the I-Cubs, Rivas is 7-for-13 (.539) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Rivas last season made his major league debut with Chicago, hitting .318 (14-for-44) with one home run, three RBI and a .388 on-base percentage in 18 games. In 58 games with Iowa last year, Rivas batted .284 (56-for-197) with 13 doubles, four homers and 32 RBI. Acquired from Oakland for infielder Tony Kemp on January 13, 2020, Rivas owns a .292 average (259-for-887) with 57 doubles, five triples, 15 home runs, 124 RBI and a .396 on-base percentage in 244 career minor league games. He was selected by Oakland in the fourth round of the 2018 Draft out of the University of Arizona. Frazier, 27, is batting .143 (3-for-21) with two runs scored, two doubles and two walks in 10 games for the Cubs.
