Cubs Roster Moves: David Bote activated off IL, Jonathan Villar DFA'd

ST. LOUIS – The Chicago Cubs today activated infielder David Bote off the 60-day injured list and designated infielder Jonathan Villar for assignment.

Bote, 29, begins his first stint with the Cubs this season after opening the year on the 60-day injured list while recovering from left shoulder surgery. During a rehab assignment from May 19-June 23 at Triple-A Iowa, he batted .284 (19-for-67) with six doubles, one triple, 12 RBI and three stolen bases in 18 games.

In all or part of four seasons with Chicago starting in 2018, Bote owns a .227 average (205-for-903) with 39 doubles, five triples, 32 home runs and 138 RBI in 343 major league games. He was selected by the Cubs in the 18th round of the 2012 Draft out of Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan.

Villar, 31, has hit .222 (34-for-153) with six doubles, two triples, two homers and 15 RBI in 46 games for Chicago this season.
