Latest news and rumors: Cubs contracts and non-tenders, latest Hot Stove and more

I’ve really enjoyed writing The Hot Corner every day for the last couple of weeks, sometimes even twice a day, but I have to tell you, this edition was a grind.

Teams had all day yesterday to tender contracts, trade, DFA, outright players and sign new deals, and they all waited until late afternoon/early evening to pile on. Details will still trickle in during the day today for some clubs, but for the most part, here’s what went down last night.

Cubs news and notes:

Cubs players tendered contracts: Addison Russell, Kris Bryant, Javier Baez, Kyle Schwarber, Kyle Hendricks, Mike Montgomery, Carl Edwards, Jr. The Cubs also tendered contracts to an additional 17 players who were not due for arbitration (names were not released).

Cubs Non-tendered players: Newly acquired infielder Ronald Torreyes, RHP Justin Hancock and RHP Alan Webster

Latest signings, non-tenders and trades from around the league

Angels: Angels non-tender RHP Blake Parker and RHP Matt Shoemaker.

Astros: Non-tender catcher Chris Herrmann, making him a free agent.

Athletics: Oakland signs RHP Liam Hendriks to 1-year deal, avoiding arbitration. Athletics non-tender RHP Mike Fiers, RHP Kendall Graveman and RHP Cory Gearrin.

Blue Jays: Toronto non-tender utility-infielder Yangervis Solarte.

Braves: Atlanta signs LHP Jonny Venters to 1-year deal.

Brewers: Milwaukee non-tenders 2B Jonathan Schoop, LHP Xavier Cedeno, LHP Dan Jennings. Brewers sign INF/OF Hernan Perez and INF Tyler Saladino to one-year deals.

Cardinals: St. Louis signs LHP Chasen Shreve to 1-year deal, avoiding arbitration.

Diamondbacks: D-Backs non-tender RHP Brad Boxberger, RHP Shelby Miller and INF/OF Chris Owings.

Giants: Designate RHP Hunter Strickland and OF Gorkys Hernandez for assignment. Giants sign INF Joe Panik, RHP Sam Dyson to 1-year deals, avoiding arbitration.

Indians: Sign RHP Danny Salazar, RHP Nick Goody, RHP Neil Ramirez, and INF Eric Stamets to 1-year deals, avoiding arbitration.

Marlins: Miami signs LHP Adam Conley, catcher J.T. Realmuto, INF Miguel Rojas, RHPs Dan Straily, José Ureña to 1-year deals, avoiding arbitration.

Nationals: Nationals agree to 1-year deals with 3B Anthony Rendon, RHP Tanner Roark, RHP Kyle Barraclough, RHP Joe Ross, OF Michael Taylor, and SS Trea Turner, avoiding arbitration. Washington also picks up catcher, Yan Gomes from Cleveland. Deal includes $7.1M in 2019, $9M team option in 2020 ($1M buyout), and an $11M option for 2021 ($1M buyout). Bear in mind, the Nationals also recently signed catcher Kurt Suzuki. Cleveland receives RHP Jefry Rodriguez, OF Daniel Johnson, PTBNL.

Orioles: Non-Tender utility-infielder Tim Beckham and catcher Caleb Joseph.

Padres: SD signs RHP Bryan Mitchell, INF Greg Garcia to 1-year deals. Padres also sign RHP Kirby Yates, LHP Robbie Erlin, catcher Austin Hedges, OF Travis Jankowski to 1-year contracts, avoiding arbitration.

Phillies: Non-tender 1B Justin Bourand LHP Luis Avilan

Pirates: Pittsburgh signs RHP Michael Feliz, RHP Keone Kela, OF Corey Dickerson to one-year deals, avoiding arbitration.

Rangers: Texas non-tenders RHP Matt Bush and three others not eligible for arbitration: RHP Ricardo Rodriguez, LHP Zac Curtis, and RHP Adrian Sampson.

Reds: Reds decline to offer contracts to OF Billy Hamilton, OF Aristides Aquino, catcher Juan Graterol, OF/1B Jordan Patterson, making them free agents.

Royals: KC fails to tender contracts to RHP Jason Adam, RHP Andres Machado, 1B Samir Dueñez, OF Bubba Starling, making them free agents.

Tigers: Non-tender catcher James McCann and RHP Alex Wilson.

Twins: Minnesota non-tenders OF Robbie Grossman.
