Cubs recall Adbert Alzolay, option lefty reliever |
CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today recalled right-handed pitcher Adbert Alzolay from the South Bend Alternate Site and optioned left-handed pitcher Kyle Ryan to the alternate site.
Alzolay is slated to make the start for today’s 1:20 p.m. CT game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Wrigley Field Alzolay, 26, is 0-2 with a 6.10 ERA (7 ER/10.1 IP) in two starts for the Cubs this season, walking three and striking out 10, with both starts coming against the Brewers. His most recent outing was April 12 in Milwaukee in which he allowed three runs in 5.1 innings in a 6-3 setback. In parts of three seasons for Chicago since 2019, Alzolay is 2-4 with a 4.91 ERA (24 ER/44.0 IP) in 12 games (eight starts). He has walked 25 and struck out 52, good for an average of 10.6 strikeouts per 9.0 innings. Alzolay signed with the Cubs as a non-drafted free agent, December 6, 2012. Ryan, 29, was recalled prior to yesterday’s game and tossed 2.0 scoreless innings of relief in his season debut. Ryan is in his fourth season with the Cubs organization after signing with the club on December 29, 2017.
