Cubs sign veteran reliever Chris Martin

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have signed former Braves reliever Chris Martin to a one-year deal worth $2.5 million with incentives worth up to $750,000.

The tall 6-foot-8 should help the Cubs bullpen with some velocity as he throws a 95 MPH fastball.

In 2021 in 46 appearances, Martin had a 3.95 ERA with 1.27 WHIP across 43.1 innings.

Overall across six seasons totaling 195 innings, he has a 4.06 ERA with 187 strikeouts and 1.20 WHIP.

With the addition of Jesse Chavez and Martin, the Cubs are rebuilding their bullpen with a few reliable relievers after the loss of Codi Heuer for the entire season with Tommy John surgery.

Not a bad signing at all for the Northsiders as they try to be competitive in 2022 and we all know that it starts with solid pitching.
