CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day at Wrigley Field Monday, April 18, at 6:40 p.m. CDT when the Cubs take on the Tampa Bay Rays. The Cubs are on the road in Colorado today, April 15, when Major League Baseball and other MLB Clubs will celebrate the 75th anniversary of Jackie Robinson’s historic MLB debut and the breaking of baseball’s color barrier.
For Jackie Robinson Day at Wrigley Field, the Cubs will honor and celebrate the baseball icon and his barrier-breaking achievements by recognizing Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholars on the field pregame and supporting Chicago Defender Charities. The Black national anthem also will be sung in addition to the national anthem. The Chicago-based diversity, equity and inclusion consulting firm, The Kaleidoscope Group, and former Chicago Bears player and motivational speaker, Ray McElroy, also will be awarded the 2022 MLB Jackie Robinson Most Valuable Diverse Business Partner Award. The Kaleidoscope Group is being honored for their work with the Cubs to help the club leverage strategies to enhance its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts while McElroy is being highlighted for his work with Cubs players and coaching staff which included helping facilitate ongoing discussions around diversity and inclusion throughout the last two seasons. The Cubs are proud to recognize these two recipients and their commitment to DEI.
