Cubs News: Javy Baez injury update |
The Chicago Cubs are starting up on a road trip against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.
However, they will be missing one of their top players against the Braves as Javy 'El Mago' Baez will be out of the lineup because of a hamstring issue. Cubs manager David Ross spoke to the media during pregame and said that the team is taking a cautious approach to his hamstring. “Feels like he could play,” Ross said. “Whenever I see hesitation like that from a player, I think it's just safer to give him a day and reassess tomorrow.” Baez is scheduled for treatment on Monday and expects the star shortstop to be ready for a pinch-hit role if needed tonight. Nico Hoerner will replace Baez at shortstop and bat leadoff. Probably a smart move by the Cubs to be very careful with the hamstring issue because if he becomes serious, those linger for weeks or a month or two. For the season, Baez is hitting .234 with six homers and 17 RBIs.
