PITTSBURGH – Chicago Cubs third baseman David Bote provided his squad with an early lead over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday. Lifting a 413-foot two-run jack out to straightaway center field, Bote placed the North Siders ahead 2-0 in the top of the second.
Starter Wil Crowe gave up the bomb at PNC Park on a 93-mph four-seamer. Left fielder Rafael Ortega drew a leadoff walk in the previous plate appearance. Bote's fourth home run of the season, the long ball carried 104.6 mph off the bat and sported a launch angle of 24 degrees.
