WATCH: Ian Happ smacks go-ahead two-run blast versus Cardinals |
CHICAGO — After third baseman Nolan Arenado put the St. Louis Cardinals up 1-0 with a leadoff blast against starter Kyle Hendricks in the top of the second on Saturday, center fielder Ian Happ responded with a two-run jack in the bottom of the second. Taking starter John Gant deep, Happ provided the Chicago Cubs with an early 2-1 lead.
The eighth long ball of the year for Happ followed a walk of catcher Willson Contreras, increasing Happ's RBI total to 18. Gant gave up the homer on a 90.3-mph four-seamer, with the dinger carrying out to center field. Happ went yard on a 2-2 count and fired up the Wrigley Field crowd.
