CHICAGO — In the Chicago Cubs' first plate appearance of Friday's game at Wrigley Field, left fielder Joc Pederson, who was fresh off making a couple of nice catches in the top of the first, blistered a pitch and smoked it out to right-center for a leadoff home run. Pederson's 10th long ball of the year, the 393-footer landed in the basket atop the outfield wall.

Cody Poteet gave up the lined shot on a 93.1-mph four-seamer. Pederson absolutely drilled the heater, as the ball left the yard in a hurry, sporting an exit velocity of 113.6 mph. The round-tripper also had a launch angle of 18 degrees. Pederson, who now has 28 RBIs, exuberantly sprinted around the bases after supplying his club with an early 1-0 lead.
