Bears injury updates after first day of mandatory mini-camp

by - Senior Editor -

The first day of the Chicago Bears' mandatory minicamp brought both good news and a few injury concerns.

Wide receivers Darnell Mooney and Chase Claypool were among the players sidelined due to their respective injuries, while safety Eddie Jackson made a full return to action.

According to reports from NBC Sports Chicago's Josh Schrock, Mooney was absent from practice as he continues his rehabilitation from a broken ankle suffered last November. The young wide receiver has been making progress in his recovery, but it seems the Bears are taking a cautious approach by keeping him out of minicamp for now.

On the other hand, Claypool was present at the minicamp but did not participate due to a tissue injury sustained during organized team activities (OTAs). While the severity of Claypool's injury is unknown, the team is likely giving him time to heal and avoid aggravating the issue further.

Linebacker Jack Sanborn, rookie cornerback Terell Smith, tight end Chase Allen, and wide receiver Joe Reed were also in attendance at the minicamp but did not participate in practice. The reasons for their limited involvement were not specified, but it's possible they were nursing minor ailments or simply being held out for precautionary reasons.

The Bears will practice on Wednesday and Thursday before end of mandatory camp.
