Bears make several roster moves

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Bears have reportedly released veteran defensive end Mario Edwards, rookie free agent defensive tackle Trevon Coley, defensive lineman Sam Kamara, and running back De'Montre Tuggle on Tuesday.

Edwards was a solid veteran rotational piece but couldn't stay healthy as he was injured this preseason.

This move will save the Bears a few million on the salary cap.

Coley had three sacks this preseason and might be picked up on the practice squad if no other team snatches him up.

Tuggle is another practice player candidate for the Bears as there is an abundance of depth in the running back room already with David Montgomery, Khalil Herbert, and Darrynton Evans.

Kamara led the team in quarterback pressures this preseason and the hope is that the team can bring him back to the practice squad if he clears the waiver process.

Update: The Bears are also releasing quarterback Nathan Peterman who excelled during the preseason. They hope to re-sign him to the practice squad to have three QBs with knowledge of the current offensive system.

Update 2: The Bears are waiving veteran offensive lineman Michael Schofield.

Update 3: The Bears are waiving offensive lineman Lachavious Simmons. The team is interested in bringing him back on the practice squad.

The 53-man roster deadline is 3 p.m. CT. Currently, the Bears need to cut an additional 20 players today.

Stay tuned to ChicagoBearsHQ, as there will be many more roster moves in the next few hours.
