Bears reportedly sign former Packers tight end Robert Tonyan

by - Senior Editor -

Another new weapon for franchise quarterback Justin Fields.

The Chicago Bears are reportedly signing former Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan to a one-year deal.

The deal is pending a physical.

In 2022, he had 53 receptions for 470 yards and two touchdowns. In the previous season, he had only 8 catches before suffering a torn ACL.

His best season as a pro was the 2022 campaign, in which he caught 52 passes for 586 and an impressive 11 touchdowns. Four of those 11 touchdowns were over 20 yards which was the most by any tight end that season.

One interesting tidbit is that him and Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy are familiar with each other during their Packers day so you know that Getsy will know how to get Tonyan involved in the passing game.

Tonyan was an undrafted free agent with the Packers in 2018.

The 6-5, 237-pound redzone threat should be a nice one-touch punch with Cole Kmet as talented tight ends for 2023.

Kmet had 50 catches for 544 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

This deal is not official yet.
