WATCH: Ryan Poles, Matt Eberflus on start of Bears training camp

Football is right around the corner!

Bears general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus addressed the media Friday at Halas Hall as veterans arrived for the start of training camp.

“I like that we start training camp and have the ability to define that in terms of what our ceiling is," Poles said about the team's goals this season. "Like I said in the opener, we’re going to take a daily approach and get better and better. I’ve never backed away from it. Our goal has always been to win a Super Bowl and take the division, and I feel like we’re continuing to get closer and closer to that, so I’m excited to find out what that ceiling is."

Poles was asked about the elevated competition for roster spots at camp.

"This is kind of a different situation than we've been in the first two years," Poles said. "A lot of these position battles are going to be tight. And it gets harder and harder to kind of create that 53-man roster just because there's an influx of talent. So, it's challenging, but it's a good problem to have."

Poles wants his rookie quarterback Caleb Williams to make the simple plays with all his playmakers around him.

“I want to see him leaning on the talent around him,” Poles said. “I think it’s got to be comforting to know that you don’t have to do everything on your own, which makes it a pretty good situation for a young quarterback. There’s going to be adversity, and I want to see him lean on all of us to get through those moments.”

Poles responded to a question about Caleb Williams' contract being signed with some reportedly unique requests by his representatives.

"It's very common for different things to be asked for at the very beginning of negotiations. It wasn't very shocking in terms of what was being asked for."
