Chicago Bears: The Answer to the kicking question mark

by - Staff Writer -

Despite the negativity, the Bears certainly had some encouraging take aways from the preseason. Among the positives include potential answer to a question mark that has been looming since Robbie Gould was released a few years back: who should kick field goals. That positive came when Eddy Pineiro nailed a 58 yard bomb through the uprights.

Cody Parkey was the answer last season, and we all remember the devastating inconsistency that ultimately led to a missed kick that ended the Bears seasons and put every fa through miserable heartbreak.

Many Bears fans believed Robbie Gould wanted to return to the Bears, and it truly seemed as if he did - as he voiced his wish to be close to his family (who lives in Chicago) on social media. Ultimately it seems like Robbie is staying in San Francisco, so the Bears had to look elsewhere this season.

The Bears job believed to be between Eddy Pineiro who is acclaimed for his powerful leg, as the youngster kicked an 81 yarder a few years back - and Elliot Fry who was recently waived by the Bears.

It looks like the Bears decided to settle the wild battle between the two kickers by giving the potential loaded Pineiro a real shot at earning the job. Pineiro did his best to prove that he deserves the job by blasting a nearly 60 yard field goal.

Now it is not out of the question that the Bears look to trade for Justin Tucker’s back-up or a more experienced kicker like Mason Crosby or Matt Bryant, but for the time being it looks like Pineiro’s job to lose.

And if Pineiro keeps kicking 58 yarders, it will be his job for good.
