Commentary: A Few Takeaways from the Almora Foul Ball Incident

I, like most, watched in horror, wondering the fate of the child struck by a foul ball which had left Albert Almora Jr.’s bat on Thursday night in Houston. Full Story »

I believe that the netting should extend all the way to the foul pole. Several sports writers, and people closely involved with baseball agree. The people who have season tickets behind home plate, don't even think about the netting. I am sure people would get use to it. It is no different than the plexiglass at hockey games.

Agreed...fans will adjust to the nets.

And much like hockey with the plexiglass, fans will continue to get hurt.

I actually agree with Ken on this.

I never said that I wanted netting to go foul pole to foul pole. What I said was netting foul pole to foul pole was one solution to a problem. Frankly I am against the extended netting already in place.

If people are so stupid that they don't get you need to pay attention, or are dumb enough to put a child in harms way, then too bad for them if they get hit. Why should I be forced to watch a game thru a screen because some parent is an idiot?

As for children with ADD coming to games that is the decision of the parents if they want to waste $500 for their kids to crawl around on the ground. If you want to stare at your phone like some heroin addict and you get hit, I will stand and applaud when it happens.

When a child gets hurt because the parent isn't putting them in a safe situation I feel really bad for the child and not so much for the parent.

And as for hockey netting see above for the same feelings.
