Cubs assign two players to minors

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs assigned third baseman Chris Dominguez and second baseman Jemile Weeks to the minors on Tuesday according to multiple reports including ESPN's Jesse Rogers.

Dominguez batted .175 with two homers, five RBIs in 22 career major league games.

Weeks is still recovering from his knee injury and will rehab at Triple-A Iowa. In 17 career major league games, he batted .140 with two RBIs.

The Cubs are now down to 27 players on their roster with Matt Szczur battling it out with Tommy La Stella for the final roster spot. However, Szczur is out of options to the minors. Catcher Carlos Corporan is being used as an extra catcher until the start of the season.

The team will need to finalize their roster to 25 players on Sunday.
