My take is that the Cubs will try (and apparently are actively trying) to trade Hoerner and Bellinger. Hoyer has clearing demonstrated that the Cubs will not follow the LAD or NYY playbook of massive contracts and payrolls. Instead, the Cubs are following the Braves model of building teams from within - it's a more predictable and pragmatic approach, provided you can actually execute it (big IF). And so no, I do not believe the Cubs will even attempt to sign or trade for a top position player. Instead, I'm betting that Shaw will start the season at 2B (and never look back), and by June one of Caissie or Alcantara will be starting in RF, with Ballesteros splitting time with Amaya. And then this time next year Paredes will be on the block in anticipation of Cam Smith's arrival.
