Cubs Corner with Greg Young: Cubs' Mount Rushmore, Rooftop memories, more

by - Staff Writer -

On this week’s edition of the Cubs Corner, presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, Anthony welcomed long-time Cubs fan Greg Young, on the show to talk Cubs history and his time spent living across the street from Wrigley Field on one of the rooftops.

Young lived across the street from Wrigley in 1987-1990 and spent summers watching the Cubs from his home. He mentioned some of the highlights include watching Ryne Sandberg hit 40 home runs, the first and first official night game, seeing Andre Dawson play right in front of him, watching the 1989 postseason run, and Wrigley’s last all-star game in 1990.

Young told his story of his Cubs fandom, which includes his all-time favorite player Ryne Sandberg — among others.

Before moving on to some Cubs’ questions, Young also gave his opinion on the Wrigleyville neighborhood, and how much it has changed since he lived there, almost 30 years ago.

The two also chatted about who would be on their Cubs’ Mount Rushmore.

Greg’s Picks:

Ernie Banks

Billy Williams

Andre Dawson

Ryne Sandberg

With Fergie Jenkins just missing the cut.

Anthony’s Picks:

The pair talked in detail about who would be the next statued player in Wrigleyville, and whether Ryne Sandberg or Javier Baez is a better defender.

Before concluding, Anthony also expressed his hope that this episode can provide some entertainment during this challenging time, and gave his well wishes for everybody’s health and safety.

This episode, past episodes, and future episodes are available on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, and here on the CubsHQ website.
