Cubs Corner with Len Kasper: Cubs TV to White Sox radio, Thanking Kasper, Cubs TV legacy

by - Staff Writer -

On the most recent edition of the Cubs Corner, presented by Coach’s Bar and Grill, Anthony welcomed former Cubs play-by-play announcer and current radio voice of the White Sox Len Kasper onto the show.

*Coach’s Note*: Despite the ongoing pandemic, Coach’s Bar and Grill is still doing carryout and delivery for their food, so make sure you get to Coach’s.

Len and Anthony first began by talking about Len’s job switch — from the Cubs TV voice to the White Sox radio booth — and how the change of scenery has been thus far.

Len talked about broadcasting during a pandemic and its challenges and outlining that he hopes to be back on the road this year.

Anthony thanked Len on behalf of Cubs fans and asked Len to reflect on some of his favorite moments announcing the Cubs over the last 16 seasons. Some of those moments include:

* The 2016 World Series run

* The Aramis Ramirez walk-off home run

* Kris Bryant’s 2015 walk-off bomb

* Carlos Zambrano, Jake Arrieta’s first and second, and Alec Mills’ no-hitters

* And more

Len and Anthony also chatted about the Cubs’ broadcast lineage that has essentially feature three voices since the Cubs began on TV: Jack Brickhouse, Harry Caray, and Len. He mentioned how honored he was to be appreciated and revered among those legends and how glad he is that the Cubs have hired his friend Boog Sciambi to be his replacement.

The pair also chatted about the change from TV to radio stylistically and the fact the Cubs are trending downwards, and the Sox are on the up.

That and more on this edition of the Cubs Corner.

*As always, this episode is available on Soundcloud, Apple Podcasts, and the CubsHQ website*
