Position Grades for Bears after blowout win over Jaguars |
The Bears kept their winning streak and playoff hopes alive with a dominant performance on the road. It’s been an up and down season, but the Bears find themselves with a chance to keep their season alive.
Let’s give out our usual position grades for the Bears, who beat Mike Glennon and the Jaguars 41-17. Quarterbacks: A- Mitch Trubisky has been great since returning to the Bears as their starter. The offense put up 30 plus points in its fourth straight game — for the first time in 55 years. Mitch threw a bad first-half interception, but the fourth year Qb threw for 265 yards and two touchdowns — and ran in a third to earn an A- grade. One specific area where Mitch Trubisky has definitely improved this season is his decision-making on RPOs. These have become much easier reads for him. #Bears Running backs: A David Montgomery followed up his third 100-yard performance of the year with another great effort. Montgomery had 23 carries for 95 yards and a touchdown. Montgomery also caught two passes for 26 yards. Artavis Pierce also ran in a touchdown. Allen Robinson had a solid game with 10 catches for 103 yards. Rookie Darnell Mooney caught four passes for 39 yards. Anthony Miller caught a pair of passes as well. Keepin' it ??. Tight Ends: A- This unit, with an overfilled position room, had a solid day on Sunday. Rookie Cole Kmet and Jimmy Graham each were involved. Graham paced the unit with our grabs for 69 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Kmet had a pair of catches as well. Great day for this unit. Trubisky darted this to Jimmy Graham for the TD ?? Offensive Line: B The offensive line has been getting hot the right times. This unit not only was able to generate a nice push in the run game but also kept Mitch Trubiksy upright — allowing just one sack. This unit is moving in the right direction. Defensive Line: B- The D-line wasn’t great on Sunday. The unit a backup running back to gash them early but were able to recover to hold Jacksonville to only 76 yards rushing. Not sacking Glennon at all from the unit hurt, but their pressure did force some bad throws. Linebackers: A Khalil Mack was quiet for the Bears, although he picked up a tackle for loss. The usually involved Roquan Smith was great again, having eight tackles and a pair of interceptions. Danny Trevathan had four tackles and picked up a sack. Roquan Smith earned a career-high 90.4 overall grade against the Jaguars Secondary: C- The Jaguars had some big plays — including the Bears secondary getting mossed multiple times. The secondary was a weak spot as the Bears struggled to get off the field. However, they were without several defensive backs, which made that difficult. This unit needs to get healthy ASAP. Special Teams: A Cairo Santos was 2-of-2 on field goals and 5/5 on extra points, nothing short of spectacular. The return game was kept in check, but the unit didn’t need to do that much. Cairo Santos has passed Robbie Gould for the most consecutive makes in a single season in franchise history. Playcalling: A Bill Lazor and company have figured out the right offense to run with this personnel. Trubiksy looks confident, and the run game is active. Definitely, something to build on moving forward. Matt Nagy on Bill Lazor calling the plays: " It allows me to be the best head coach I can be. It works for us." This team is now 8-7 and looking to make it 9-7 and get into the playoffs against the Packers on Sunday.
