Brewers take down Cubs with Home Run Derby

by - Correspondent -

CHICAGO -- The Cubs started the game with an explosive inning, but weren’t able to get much going the rest of the day as the Brewers had four home runs on the day, two of which were by Ryan Braun as the Brewers won 11-3.

The Chicago Cubs hosted the Milwaukee Brewers for game 3 of a 4 game series after clinching the National League Central division. The game showed Jake Arrieta making his 29th start of the season. The Cubs got things going early as Tommy La Stella started the game with a single and Kris Bryant earned his 96th RBI to plate La Stella putting the score at 1-0. Chris Coghlan smoked a ball 375 feet for a home run. It was his first home run as a Cub. Three batters into the ballgame for the Cubs, and they lead the game 3-0.

The Brewers got on the board in the 4th inning, but the Cubs still held onto a lead of 3-1. The Brewers, however, were able to take the lead in the 6th inning thanks to a home run by Ryan Braun putting the score at 4-3. Braun smacked another homer in the 8th inning to add onto the Brewers lead making it 6-3. Domingo Santana hit a home run himself in the same inning to give the Brewers the 7-3 lead.

The Brewers extended their lead on a grand slam home run that hit the scoreboard in the 9th inning thanks to Chris Carter, as the Brewers led 11-3 going into the bottom of the 9th inning.

The Cubs were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the 9th, as the Brewers took the game 11-3. Arrieta pitched six innings and allowed four hits but the Brewers scored four runs off of him, and he had five strikeouts in the game.

The Cubs will continue play on Sunday against the Brewers for the last game of the series as Kyle Hendricks faces Wily Peralta on the pitcher’s mound at Wrigley Field.
