Cubs News: Contreras apologizes to the fans on Twitter

Cubs catcher Willson Contreras crushed a double in the ninth inning down six runs in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night.

Initially, he thought it was a homer and watched the ball instead of running hard out of the batter's box. His lack of hustle caused him to not get a triple on the play. He was 1-for-2 on the night with the double.

Contreras apologized on Twitter after the play saying that he did not mean to offend anyone and will not show up anyone again.

"I apologize to the fans from both sides I didn't mean to disrespect My Team @Cubs and The game.!! I Promise It Won't Happen Again," Contreras tweeted.

In 2016, he batted .282 with 12 homers and 35 RBIs in his rookie season.
