Cubs News: Javy Baez wins fourth Fielding Bible Award

by - Senior Editor -

This year's Fielding Bible Award was announced this week and Cubs' Javy Baez was the winner at shortstop.

Runnerup to Baez for the Fielding Bible Award at shortstop was Dansby Swanson of the Atlanta Braves.

"Báez lost out to Nick Ahmed of the Diamondbacks by two points last season but won a tight vote in 2020," the Fielding Bible website said. "This is his fourth Fielding Bible Award, his first at shortstop with the other three being the Multi-Position Award."

El Mago showed off his versatility with strong throws, his range, and on double plays turned.

"Báez finished tied for second among shortstops in the component of Defensive Runs Saved that measures range, throwing, and handling balls hit in the air. He finished tied for first in Double Play Runs Saved. His strength was in taking away base hits on balls hit up the middle. He made 67-of-111 such plays in which he had a greater-than-zero chance to record an out, six plays more than his expected total."

Congratulations to Baez on winning this award once again.

Baez was the only Chicago player to receive a Fielding Bible Award for 2020.

He hit .203 with 8 homers and 24 RBIs this past season.
