The Padres cut ties with Travis Wood

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have been missing some mojo since they won the 2016 World Series title.

Is the answer reuniting with lefty and fan favorite Travis Wood?

The San Diego Padres decided to designate Travis Wood for assignment on Sunday.

The Royals traded Wood midway through the season to the Padres so the Royals are still paying on his two-year contract.

In 2017, Wood started pitched in 39 games including 14 starts for a woeful 6.80 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 1.73 WHIP.

Once he clears waivers, Wood will be able to sign with a new team for probably the major league minimum of $545,000.

Would the Cubs be interested in Wood for at least a minor league deal because of his tremendous versatility? Wood can spot start, pitch in the bullpen, pinch-run, pinch-hit, and play a decent left field.

I think the Cubs have to think that Wood might have a little left in the tank because he is only 30-years old. It will interesting to see what Theo Epstein decides to do because we know that Wood fits in well with his former teammates.
