Report: Braves interested in trade for Matt Szczur

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs' Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer are currently fine-tuning their major league roster in the final stages of spring training as they to try to repeat as World Champions. One of the main themes that the Cubs are trying to accomplish with their roster in the future is acquiring more quality pitching with another possible starter and/or relievers via trade.

According to a report from MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal on Tuesday afternoon, Cubs outfielder Matt Szczur is coveted by at least one National League ballclub.

"Cubs’ Matt Szczur among trade candidates #Braves considering for extra OFer," Rosenthal tweeted. "Szczur out of options; Cubs expected to keep him."

In 2017, Szczur is batting .387 with an OPS of 1.069 during spring training.

He batted .259 with five homers, 24 RBIs and an on-base percentage of .312 in 2016. He was a versatile player last season as he played 15 games in center field, 15 games in right field, 50 games in left field, nine games as a pinch-runner, and was a pinch-hitter in 49 games.

For his career, he has hit .245 with eight homers, 37 RBIs, and an on-base percentage of .297.

He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fifth round (#160th overall) in the 2010 MLB draft.
