Former Bears receiver retires from NFL

Former Chicago Bear receiver Taylor Gabriel announced his retirement on social media.

“Retired,” Gabriel posted on Instagram. “Undrafted Free Agent Tryout #7Years. Thanks to all my fans and supporters love y’all.”

The Bears signed him to a four-year, $26 million deal in 2018.

During his two seasons with the Bears, he caught 96 passes for 1,041 yards and six touchdowns. His best season as a pro was with the Bears in 2018, when he had 67 catches for 688 yards.

He was released by the Bears in early 2020 and then opted out of the 2020 season because of safety issues with COVID-19.

“I opted to not play this year with covid,” Gabriel tweeted back in 2020. “I’ve had offers to play but chose my family's safety.”

He was an undrafted rookie with the Browns in 2014.

Congratulations to a nice career to Gabriel, as he is not officially an ex-NFL player.
