Christopher Morel spotted in Chicago, reportedly being called up |
Iowa Cubs star Christopher Morel is in Chicago on Monday as we await tonight's rivalry game between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals.
Cubs President of Operations Jed Hoyer was asked by the media Friday about Morel. “Chris is playing awesome, and he’s obviously great in the clubhouse. And he’s going to have a huge impact on this team. I do think he’s benefiting from playing every day. When there’s a path to playing a lot, I think it’s no question he’ll be up here. “He really sparked this last year. I know he can have an impact, but we want to make sure he’s coming and playing every day. Having him come and not get those at-bats and not get a chance to really participate on a regular basis, I don’t think that’s the right thing for him or for us.” Morel has been raking all season for the I-Cubs, including a MILB-leading 84 total bases. I'm pretty sure that Morel wouldn't just be sightseeing in Chicago right now, so it appears that a roster move might be happening soon. Update: ESPN's Jesse Rogers is reporting that the Cubs are calling him up today. Stay tuned for more details. Check out Morel in Chicago: MOREL IS IN CHICAGO!!! I REPEAT!! The Cubs are calling up Christopher Morel who had a 1.156 OPS this season at Triple-A. Made his debut for them last year.
Just noting that Christopher Morel hasn’t played anything except CF since April 23. That’s sort of what fit that Iowa roster best when Mastrobuoni went down, but noteworthy as we learn and consider what his role in Chicago in the near-term might be.
