SAN DIEGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated left-handed pitcher Wade Miley from the 10-day injured list. In a corresponding move, outfielder Michael Hermosillo has been placed on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to May 8) with a left quadriceps strain.

Miley, 35, will wear number 20 and will make his first start of the season during tonight’s 6:40 p.m. PT game against the San Diego Padres at PETCO Park. Miley, who has been on the 10-day injured list since the beginning of the season due to left elbow inflammation, was claimed by the Cubs off waivers from Cincinnati, November 5, 2021.

Miley finished the 2021 season with a 12-7 record and a 3.37 ERA (61 ER/163.0 IP) in 28 starts for the Reds, including his first career no-hitter on May 7 in Cleveland. The lefthander was named the National League Pitcher of the Week following his no-hitter, his first career weekly award. In 16 outings from May 31-August 27, Miley went 7-0 with a 2.41 ERA (27 ER/101.0 IP), tying the longest winning streak of his career.

The six-foot, two-inch Miley, who is in his 12th major league season, is 97-92 with a 4.15 ERA (729 ER/1,581.0 IP) in 283 games (277 starts) lifetime. Since 2012, Miley ranks among the fifth among major league pitchers in starts (270) and 12th in innings (1,541.0). During his first full major league season in 2012, Miley finished second in the BBWAA’s N.L. Rookie of the Year voting and was named a National League All-Star and the N.L. Rookie of the Month in April.

Miley was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the first round (43rd overall) of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. The Hammond, La., native attended Loranger High School in Loranger, La., and pitched for three seasons at Southeastern Louisiana University.

Hermosillo, 27, is batting .071 (2-for-28) with a double and two RBI in 17 games for the Cubs this season, starting nine games in center field.
