The Chicago Cubs (3-2) were back in action on Wednesday afternoon, facing off against the Kansas City Royals (2-3).

It was all Northsiders from beginning to end in front of 9,336 happy fans in the 8-0 victory.

Cubs starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks had a nice first start of the spring pitching two innings and giving up only one infield hit and recording a strikeout.

The final seven innings the Cubs pitching staff was incredible, giving up only four more hits on the afternoon.

In the third inning, the offense scoring started with Javy Baez smashing a home run to left field over the bullpen to put the Cubs up 1-0. It was his first homer of spring but certainly, it won't be his last.

The scoring continued in the fourth inning with an RBI single by Albert Almora Jr. on a ground ball to centerfield to push it to 2-0.

Almora Jr. has hit well this spring so far totaling 5-6 with a homer and five RBIs, slugging 1.800 and a walk.

Newcomer Jason Kipnis added a RBI single scoring Steven Souza Jr. to make it 3-0. Trent Giambrone added another run in the inning with a sacrifice fly to right field to put the Cubs up 4-0.

The score stayed the same until eighth inning when Giambrone continued his hot spring with a RBI single that scored Ian Miller. The Cubs added more insurance runs with a RBI double by Corban Joseph and a RBI single by Noel Cuevas to make it 8-0.

Cubs reliever Oscar De La Cruz got the final three outs in the ninth inning on 13 pitches to preserve the 8-0 win.

The Cubs are now 3-2 on the season and have scored 30 runs in their last three games.
