Cubs sign Angels outfielder to minor-league deal |
There is some news ahead of the non-tender deadline today.
The Chicago Cubs have signed outfielder Michael Hermosillo to a minor league deal. "Thank you to the @Angels for an amazing 7 years! Very grateful for the time I had over there. A lot of lifelong friends and memories made," he posted on social media after the signing. "Excited to get to work with the @Cubs! I grew up a Cubs fan so this one is definitely special and I’m ready to take advantage of it." Hermosillo was rated recently as the Angels' 18th top prospect according to FanGraphs. This signing is important for the organization because it gives them some outfield depth in the minors if they decide to non-tender Albert Almora Jr. today before the 7 pm. CT deadline. He grew up as a Cub fan and his favorite player growing up was Alfonso Soriano. The 25-year-old went to high school in Ottawa, Illinois. In 2020, in 8 at-bats had two hits with two RBIs and a walk. For his MLB career in 101 at-bats, he has batted .188 with a homer and six RBI. ???? #NewProfilePic pic.twitter.com/A1dDjqnY8O Still super hyped for @mhermosillo10! Not only because I'm a @Cubs fan, but he grew up one as well!! Playing at Wrigley was something he probably dreamed about a few times growing up. pic.twitter.com/rB3dUAx22i
