Chicago Bears legend Steve "Mongo" McMichael is battling the disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) but was still able to hear the news recently that he was a semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Iconic WWE wrestler Ric Flair visited his friend McMichael and his wife to show his support for his friend.

"July 27 is the last day. If he doesn’t get into the Hall of Fame – He’s got better numbers than Warren Sapp. I don’t get it," Flair told Fox News. "He’s laying there with ALS. What the hell is wrong with these guys?

McMichael had 95 sacks, 13 forced fumbles, 17 fumble recoveries, three safeties and 847 combined tackles in his 15 years in the NFL.

“It means everything to us,” said his wife Misty to WGN of her husband being a semifinalist. “Everybody knows, especially in the NFL world, that he deserves it, that his stats have always been there.”

Mongo has been excited that he received the honor.

“He had the biggest smile,” said Misty. “He had dimples. You don’t know until he smiles. But he’s been smiling so big, he had dimples all the time now. He’s just excited. We’re all super excited.”

Good job by Flair for being a true friend and still supporting his friend as he tries to get his buddy 'Mongo' into the prestigious Hall of Fame.

July 27 is when the HOF committee will vote for the final 12 to go to the next round of consideration.

Best of luck to McMichaels and his entire family, as everyone at ChicagoBearsHQ is cheering you on and hopeful that you will get your day as a Hall of Famer.
