Cubs News: Shota Imanaga finishes fourth in 2024 National League Rookie of the Year Award

by -

Here are the voting results of the 2024 National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award. Ballots from two writers in each league city prior to postseason play are tabulated on a system that rewards five points for first place, three points for second place and one point for third place.

National League results

NL Jackie Robinson Award

Paul Skenes, Pirates 23 1st place votes, 7 second place votes, 136 total points

Jackson Merrill, Padres 7 1st place votes, 23 second place votes, 104 total points

Jackson Chourio, Brewers 26 third place votes, 26 total points

Shota Imanaga, Cubs 4 third place votes, 4 total points

Only four players received votes, the fewest in National League Rookie of the Year voting since the BBWAA went to a three-player ballot in 1980. The previous low had been five, in 2001 when Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals won the election and 1998 when Kerry Wood of the Chicago Cubs was the winner. The all-time low total of players to receive votes was three in the American League election of 1983 won by Ron Kittle of the Chicago White Sox.

Skenes is only the second Pittsburgh Pirates winner of this award. The only other was outfielder Jason Bay in 2004 when the Pirates became the last pre-expansion franchise with a Rookie of the Year winner.

Skenes, the 24th pitcher to win the NL Rookie of the Year Award, and Merrill were named on all ballots.
