Cubs announce Justin Steele to have season-ending surgery |
The Man of Steele will be out of action for a while.
Chicago Cubs manager Craig Counsell announced Sunday that ace pitcher Justin Steele will have season-ending surgery on his left elbow. Steele had a 3-1 record with a 4.76 ERA in four starts this season. The Cubs currently have an impressive 10-7 record on the season, but this certainly will dampen the team's morale with one of their leaders for the rest of the season. He previously had a Tommy John surgery in 2017. Jordan Wicks, Cade Horton, and Javier Asaad are three in-house options for the Cubs to replace Steele in the rotation. They also could look outside for a big-name pitcher with their surplus of talent stockpiles as trade pieces in the minors.
