Anthony Rizzo's option declined by the Yankees

Tony Crumpton Tony Crumpton - Senior Editor -

Former Cubs star first baseman Anthony Rizzo is no longer a Yankee.

The Yankees declined his $17 million team option for the 2025 season, announced by the team on Saturday. Rizzo will still get $6 million by having them decline the final year of his contract.

Rizzo hit only .237 with 20 homers in 191 games the last two seasons.

He battled several injuries this season, including a broken arm and fractured fingers. He hit .228 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs. In the playoffs, he hit .267 with six RBIs.

It should be interesting to see where he ends up next season. He could be a solid veteran presence for many teams, including the Cubs.
