Anthony Rizzo has a message for Cubs fans: "I love you guys"

by - Senior Editor -

Long-time first baseman Anthony Rizzo is no longer a member of the Chicago Cubs as he was traded to the New York Yankees for two elite prospects on Thursday night.

Marquee Sports Network's Cole Wright was able to speak with Rizzo for a few moments before the star first baseman left Wrigley Field.

"I love you guys," Rizzo said as his message to fans.

"It's been the best years and best time of my life. There is so much right now (overwhelmed with emotions); it's hard. In a couple of weeks, when we play the White Sox, I'll be able to talk more on it. Nothing but love."

Rizzo was asked how he was feeling about the trade.

"A lot of emotions," he said. "The best years of my life have been in Chicago as a Cub. Just basically being a local here. I feel like I am part of Chicago as a person and the culture here and what the fanbase brings. It's just amazing. The memories will never go away, and when I look around, no regrets."

Best of luck to Rizzo and his family as they head to New York.
